Weekly Round 2 tournaments from across the universe

What do Newton, Hubble, Eddington, Copernicus, Sagan and Halley, among others, have in common?

Think Newton and you think gravity and the laws of motion, Hubble detailed evidence of galaxies other than our own (like finding Omaha and Stud); we may not have understood it but Eddington brought Einstein’s theory of relativity to the English speaking world, Copernicus said the earth was not the centre of the universe, Sagan pioneered the search for extraterrestrial life and Halley discovered one of the most famous comets, next due for a planet earth fly-by in 2061.

So you might think ‘astronomy’ is the link. Well maybe, but they’re also the names of the freeroll tournaments on PokerStars.net that could lead you to a share of a $2,000 prize pool in the PokerStars Weekly Round 2 freerolls.

If you don’t already know, that would be the Weekly Round 2 event, and if you haven’t already had a go then here’s the detail of how to play.

First, the Weekly Round 2 event is a $2,000 freeroll – a tournament with cash prizes that is free to enter. It takes place every weekend and you can play free of charge, provided you play in one of the weekly astronomer tournaments on PokerStars.net (also free to enter) and finish within the number of positions stated when you register – normally within the top 11 tables (around 99 players).

Once you do that you can register for either the Saturday or Sunday Round 2 event – shown in bold in the tournament lobby – for your chance to win part of a $2,000 prize pool.

So, as Carl Sagan once said, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known." You could wait for the flash of inspiration to flash across the skies or you could discover this for yourself. It might not be a Newton or a Sagan moment, but it may just provide the flash that sparks your game into life. Find out for yourself in the lobby of PokerStars.net.

PokerStars players head south for Latin American Poker Tour

There was a time when to play in a large poker tournament you had to head off into the desert and find your way to Las Vegas. How the horizon changes. Now you can literally fly to all points on the compass to play big buy-in events, with one of the last gaps on that horizon filled with the creation of the new PokerStars.net Latin American Poker Tour which starts this year - where no doubt more champions will be made.

Starting on 3 May the LAPT begins in the beautiful city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, before moving on to San Jose, Costa Rica, and Punta del Este in Uruguay for some of the most exotic poker in the world.

The PokerStars.net blog will report back on this exciting ride starting with the first event in Brazil in May. Check back here to see how things go.
